Max Verstappen has converted his private plane so that he can fit a race simulator inside the aircraft, according to Dr Helmut Marko.
Verstappen is known to be a fan of simulator racing and often spends his free time away from grand prix weekends at his home simulator.
While other drivers choose to switch off and keep their minds away from the sport when they can, Verstappen jumps behind the wheel at every opportunity he can get.
“His sim, you probably have to ask him, but it looks like his holy space in the house, no one touches his sim,” said Atze Kerkhof, director of Team Redline, with whom Verstappen races virtually with.
“It’s his thing and when he comes home, that’s his gym.”
“The opposite is the case,” Marko told Sport1 when asked if Verstappen would be more focused on ‘proper racing’.
“He even had his private plane converted so that he can fly a simulator in the air in the future. But that’s a good thing, too, because Max needs this distraction. In any case, it didn’t do him any harm when it came to his two titles.”
Verstappen recently took part in the Virtual 24 Hours of Le Mans that was marred by technical issues, which resulted in the Dutchman quitting the event through frustration.
“This the third time already that has happened to me now, being kicked off the game while doing this race,” he said.
“This is also the last time ever because what’s the point? You prepare for five months to try and win this Championship, you are leading the Championship, you try to win this race which you have prepared for for two months and they handle it like this.
“Honestly, it is a joke. You cannot even call it an event. It’s a clown show.”
