The Kia Stonic was launched back in 2017 and has proven to be a success for the Korean manufacturer. Its compact proportions make it a good urban package while its SUV styling has found favour with the fashion conscious. This model receives a host of updates for 2020.
Externally you’d be hard pushed to spot the differences between old and new, but the keen-eyed amongst you might have clocked the new LED lighting. More overt change comes in the form of customisation options – a big part of what makes compact SUVs so attractive to buyers. A pair of new paint finishes in the form of Storm Grey and Azure Blue are available, as is a vivid yellow contrast package. There’s also a set of new 16-inch alloy wheels to complete the design of your new Kia.
The big news with the updated Stonic is the addition of a mild-hybrid petrol powertrain. A combination of a 1.0-litre engine and 48-volt electric system allows the car to harvest energy under braking and repurpose it for power demands. This more potent system also allows the car’s engine to be off for longer period while running ancillaries. This hybrid model comes in two states of tune, a 99bhp or 118bhp that are also available with an automatic or manual transmission . A new clutch system in automatic cars actually allows the car’s efficient start/stop system to activate more readily.
The Stonic’s interior has received some attention with an upgraded infotainment system. This 8-inch touchscreen features Kia’s latest software seen on the XCeed, and includes helpful services such as fuel prices and weather forecasts.
In addition to these tweaks and the mild-hybrid system being applied to the range, this Kia retains what every other Kia has… An industry leading 7-year 100,000 mile warranty that is transferred from owner to owner.
