The incident happened in Assam where an Uber driver tried to ram his car over a couple of journalists. The cab driver has been now arrested by the police of Assam. The cab driver wanted the payment in cash but the payment method was already set to online so it could not be changed. When denied, the driver got aggressive and tried to hit the journalists.

The name of the journalists is Mohd Abuzar Choudhary and Nikita Jain. They were travelling via an Uber cab in the morning and the cab driver started demanding payment in form of cash. But the application’s payment method was already set to online and it could not be changed. When the journalists, denied this, the driver hit Mohd Abuzar Choudhary and tried to run him over with his car, said Nikita Jain. There is also a clear video in which we can see this happening. She also said that the driver called them “Bangladeshi”.
Nikita tweeted, “We had booked an Uber for Kamakhya in #Guwahati. The online was payment but he wanted cash. He then got aggressive and beat @MohdAbuzarCh with a rod. When we said we will file a complaint he tried to run over my colleague with his car. He also called us Bangladeshi @assampolice,”
The Guwahati police responded to her tweet. They asked for more details and the police Commissioner Hardi Singh personally responded by saying “action has been initiated”. Uber India has also tweeted, that they asked for details and said that they will be taking “necessary action”. The company also said that they have removed the driver’s access from the application. Moreover, the rider can claim the trip insurance to cover the medical expenses.
Uber’s spokesperson said, “What has been described violates Uber’s code of conduct and has no place on the platform. We have removed the driver’s access to the app and are in touch with the rider to provide assistance. We stand ready to assist law enforcement authorities and have informed the rider that he can avail trip insurance to cover medical expenses,”
Government to investigate Ola and Uber
The complaints against Uber and Ola taxi services have increased quite a bit. So, the government has finally decided to step between and investigate both companies for unfair practices. The government will be sitting with both the companies and questioning them about the issues.
Many people are not driving anymore because of the increasing traffic and now they can just take the metro for their daily commutes. Tanveer Pasha, the president of Ola and Uber drivers’ association in Bengaluru said that there were 1 lakh cabs on the roads before the coronavirus pandemic. But now there are hardly 30,000 cab drivers.
