India’s road safety landscape needs to be revised by significant challenges, particularly regarding two-wheelers. With a massive population heavily dependent on motorcycles and scooters for transportation, the country witnesses a staggering number of road accidents involving these vehicles.
TVS has always been at the forefront of enhancing the safety features of two-wheelers by implementing new safety measures. The company strives to create a safer riding experience for its customers by prioritizing rider safety.
There is a high possibility that the future TVS motorcycles and scooters might get equipped with an AI camera-based system designed to detect whether the rider is wearing a helmet.
Vinay Harne, President of New Product Development at TVS, speaking at a conclave, has revealed that TVS is developing a helmet reminder system that uses AI cameras. This system will detect if a rider is not wearing a helmet and display a reminder message, prompting the rider to wear helmet.
In addition, Harne said that the camera-based helmet reminder system is being developed for multiple models and is expected to be launched shortly. Furthermore, he mentioned that TVS is actively working on various rider safety systems, including advanced rider assistance systems, early warning systems, and automatic braking systems.
TVS is known for its disrupting nature when it comes to two wheeler tech. TVS had earlier grabbed the headlines by offering connectivity features on its two-wheelers when these features only existed in premium two-wheelers.
If the company brings the helmet detection system on its two-wheelers, it will be the first in the Indian market. This AI technology has been extensively relied upon by several states of our country. Recently, more than 700 AI cameras were installed in Kerala to detect traffic rules violations.
These AI cameras are designed to expose traffic rule violations like driving without seatbelts, riding without helmets, talking on mobile while driving, overspeeding, and riding with more than a pillion.
Thoughts On TVS Introducing Helmet Detection Cameras On Two Wheelers
TVS’ plan to introduce artificial intelligence supported camera systems to detect helmets on riders is a significant leap in enhancing the rider safety and promoting responsible riding practices among two wheeler commuters.
The camera-system will definitly motivate people to practice safe riding and use safety equipment, especially in a densely populated country like India, where responsible riding has immense space to grow.
With this move, TVS sets an example for the industry to prioritize saftey of the rider. As technology evolves, we can anticipate many more advancements like these, that assures rider safety in near future.
