Toyota has announced price hike up to 4 per cent on all its models in India. The new pricing will be effective from 1st April 2022. According to the official press release, the increase in input cost is the reason for the upcoming price hike.
Speaking about the price hike, Toyota is yet to release a model-wise price breakup and the upcoming price hike is also likely to affect the prices of the newly launched 2022 Toyota Glanza. However, we expect the price hike on this model to be a minor hike compared to other models such as Toyota Innova Crysta, Toyota Fortuner and Toyota Legender.
Apart from that, Toyota may soon launch the CNG variant of the 2022 Glanza in India. The launch of the CNG variant of the 2022 Glanza will be an attractive proposition for many Toyota customers due to the lower CNG price and better mileage.
Also, the 2022 Glanza CNG will also be more pocket-friendly and better suited to those who clock a lot of kilometres in their cars.
At present, the prices for the 2022 Toyota Glanza ranges from Rs 6.39 lakh (ex-showroom, India) to Rs 9.69 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
Expect the upcoming CNG version of the 2022 Glanza to be Rs 70,000 to Rs 80,000 more expensive than the standard variant.
Speaking about the engine in the new Toyota Glanza, the new model comes with just one engine option. The new engine is a 1.2-litre, naturally-aspirated, petrol engine with a mild-hybrid system and DualJet technology.
This is the same engine that also powers the 2022 Maruti Suzuki Baleno and produces a peak power of 89bhp and 113Nm of peak torque.
Though the 5-speed manual transmission continues to be offered on the updated Toyota Glanza, the CVT gearbox in the pre-facelift model has been replaced by a 5-speed AMT gearbox.
However, the AMT transmission won’t be available in the upcoming CNG variant of the 2022 Glanza and we expect this engine to produce around 76bhp of peak power and 98Nm of peak torque while running on the CNG fuel.
As part of the update, the new 2022 Glanza gets a lot of features over the previous model and the new Glanza includes features such as an all-new 9-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a new flat-bottom steering wheel, a revised instrument console, wireless charging, connected-car tech, new dashboard, heads-up display, and many more.
In terms of safety, the updated Glanza comes with all the safety features on the new 2022 Maruti Suzuki Baleno. This means the updated Glanza comes with safety systems such as 6 airbags, ABS, ESP, EBD, reverse parking sensors, 360-degree surround-view camera, Hill Hold Assist, ISOFIX anchoring points and many more.
Also, Toyota Kirloskar Motor has announced that the company had registered 8,745 unit sales in February 2022. This means Toyota has registered a growth of 19 per cent when compared to the 7,328 units sold in January 2022. However, the YoY sales performance of Toyota has gone down by almost 38 per cent.
Moreover, as per the latest reports, Toyota will soon launch the Hilux pickup truck in India and we expect Toyota to price the Hilux around Rs 25 lakh to Rs 32 lakh in India.
Thoughts About Toyota’s Upcoming Price Hike
While the upcoming price hike may seem like a speed-breaker for Toyota’s business in India, Toyota has a very strong foundation in India and we expect the upcoming price hike to barely affect the overall sales performance.
