The Rumion likely to share its design, underpinnings, powertrain, and features with the Maruti Ertiga
Currently on sale in the South African markets, the Toyota Rumion is now gaining popularity. A rebadged version of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, the Toyota Rumion is offered with similar engine options and features but slightly tweaked looks.
Toyota recently filed a trademark application for the Rumion in India and is now expected to introduce this affordable 7-seater MPV in the Indian market soon. Here is everything you need to know about the Toyota Rumion MPV.
Looks and Design
The Toyota Rumion is a rebadged Ertiga, and looks almost similar. However, there are a few changes that do differentiate it from the Ertiga. The front fascia gets a differently styled three-slat vertical chrome grille and a prominent Toyota badge in the centre.
Flanking the grille are projector headlamps with LED DRL and fog lamps. While the side profile remains exactly the same, we might see different alloy wheel design in India. Just like the sides, the rear too is similar and is dominated by LED taillights and a big chrome applique in the centre. In all, the Rumion, just like the Ertiga, boasts a subtle and elegant design language that be appreciated by almost all the buyers.
Interiors and Features
The rebadged Maruti Eritga, known as the Toyota Rumion, is all set to make a debut in the Indian market
The cabin of the Rumion will be spacious and will boast comfortable seats and a commendable in-cabin experience. The Rumion will be offered with all the modern bells and whistles expected from a car in this segment. Features like push-button start, automatic climate control, steering mounted controls, touchscreen infotainment system, rear AC vents, cruise control will be available with the car.
Toyota will also load the upcoming Rumion with other features such as electrically adjustable and folding ORVMs, day/night IRVM, and height-adjustable driver’s seats. Needless to say, we are expecting the brand to introduce the Rumion with six as well as seven-seat configuration options.
Engine, Powertrain, and Performance
While no major changes have been made to the design, there are a few changes that differentiate it from the Ertiga
The Rumion is expected to be offered with a 1.5L mild-hybrid engine that churns out 105Ps and 138 Nm of peak torque. We see the same engine with the present iterations of the Ertiga and it is offered with a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic gearbox.
While the performance of this motor is adequate, it is the optional CNG bi-fuel version in the Ertiga that attracts most of the buyers. Toyota is not expected to offer the Rumion with a CNG powertrain, but who doesn’t like surprises?
India Launch and Price
Inside, the new Rumion will be offered with all the modern bells and whistles
Toyota trademarked the Rumion name in the country a few months ago but is yet to announce the official launch timeline for this MPV. Since Rumion is being sold in South Africa as an MPV, it’s safe to assume the Rumion MPV might soon make its debut in the Indian market in coming months.
Having said this, the Toyota Rumion price is expected to start from INR 9-10 lakh (ex-showroom). Once launched, it will compete against the Maruti Ertiga, Kia Carens, Maruti XL6, Mahindra Marazzo, etc.
