Toyota has released a new teaser that features the Japanese automaker’s new hybrid SUV. In addition to that, Toyota has also that the upcoming SUV will be a self-charging hybrid model.
Codenamed Toyoya D22, though the details on the model are scarce, we expect the SUV to be positioned in the market to rival SUVs such as Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, MG Astor and Volkswagen Taigun.
Subsequently, Toyota has also released the ‘Hum Hai Hybrid’ campaign in India to promote hybrid vehicles in the country and this campaign aims to lay the foundation for Toyota’s upcoming hybrid SUV.
According to sources, the upcoming hybrid SUV will be unveiled before the end of June 2022 and will also have a rebadged Maruti Suzuki counterpart.
Speaking about the upcoming Toyota D22 SUV, the model is likely to feature the Toyota’s 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder, naturally-aspirated petrol engine. In addition to that, this engine is likely to feature the more fuel-efficient Atkinson cycle.
This is the same engine that powers the Toyota Yaris hatchback and Yaris Cross. The above-mentioned 1.5-litre ICE and the electric motor together produce 113.5bhp of peak power, whereas the torque generated by the ICE stands at 120Nm and the electric motor produces slightly more torque at 141Nm.
Recently, Toyota also launched the 2022 iteration of the Toyota Camry hybrid sedan in India and the sedan features many updates on the outside and inside.
As part of the new update, the 2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid gets new features such as the new infotainment unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, 9-speaker JBL audio system, wireless charging pad, heads-up display,
ventilated front seats with memory function, cruise control, electronic sunroof, three-zone climate control, reclining rear seats, leather interiors, sun shades, power reclining rear seats, power sunshades for rear passengers and many more.
In terms of safety, the recently launched Toyota Camry Hybrid sedan comes equipped with top-shelf safety features such as 9 airbags, ABS, EBD, TC, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), electronic stability program (ESP), Park Assist with Back Guide Monitor, VSC, Hill-Start Assist and many more.
Powering the 2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid sedan is a 2.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine with 175.5bhp. This engine is further boosted by a 160kW electric motor and in combined form, this powertrain produces 215bhp of peak power.
Thoughts About Toyota’s Upcoming Hybrid SUV
Thanks to rising fuel prices and the growing trend for SUVs, we expect Toyota’s upcoming hybrid SUV to quickly gain traction in the Indian market. However, the Indian market is also very sensitive to pricing and Toyota has to price the upcoming Hybrid SUV aggressively.
