Company’s new-vehicle total for last month was its best January since 2018 as its overall emissions drop.
Toyota NZ notched up record vehicle sales last month with 49 per cent of its units sold being hybrid electric vehicles.
The total marks the best January new-vehicle registrations month for the company since 2018.
It sold 2,597 units last month with the electrification mix of 49 per cent and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions for new vehicles sitting at 169g/km, an 11 per cent reduction from January 2022.
Neeraj Lala, chief executive officer, says that with January being a big month, Toyota has been able to deliver vehicles to customers who have been waiting.
“We would like to thank our customers for their ongoing support as we start to regain stock allocation and deliver vehicles to those who have been waiting for a while. We’re focusing on getting further allocation for the rest of the quarter to continue to meet demand.
“I’m incredibly proud to see that our customer demand continues to swing towards electrified product with almost 50 per cent of our sales in January being hybrid electric vehicles.
“However, our goal has always been depth and breadth of our range to ensure we are meeting the needs of all our Kiwi customers. This includes commercial vehicles like the Hilux, which meets the needs of a large sector of our customer base.
“We can still achieve number one for Hilux while maintaining our reduction in CO2 through our balanced portfolio. We will continue to do so throughout the year.”
Toyota NZ continues its commitment to a 46 per cent reduction in CO2 emissions by 2030 while still providing customers with vehicles they want and need.
Its top-selling vehicle in January was the Hilux on 798 units, followed by the Corolla and RAV4.
General manager of new vehicles, Steve Prangnell, says that despite the Hilux being the marque’s best-selling model last month, Toyota NZ has maintained a reduction in emissions.
“This demonstrates the effectiveness of Toyota and Lexus having a balanced sales and product portfolio. It’s also a testament to our commitment to reducing our CO2 impact while still providing customers with high quality, reliable, affordable and safe vehicles.”
