Toyota has released details of the Rav4 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) SUV which is expected in the spring next year, and says it will have an electric-only range of 46.6 miles, which could rise to as much as 60 miles if only driven in an urban environment. It will also be the most powerful version yet of the Volkswagen Tiguan rival, boasting a 302bhp thanks to a 2.5-litre four cylinder engine mated to two electric motors, which are powered by an 18kWh battery.
As a result, the Rav4 PHEV will have a 0-62mph time of six seconds flat and will return up to 282.5mpg and produce just 22g/km CO2. It will be AWD, with the petrol engine sending powers to the front and the electric motors positioned on the rear axle. Equipment additions include 19inch wheels, an automatic tailgate, a head-up display and heated front seats. It will also come with a nine inch infotainment system which hosts Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
