Toyota Kirloskar Motor has recorded the highest-ever domestic sales in the last five years by selling 17,131 units of its cars in March 2022. In addition to that, the Japanese automaker registered 58 per cent cumulative growth in FY21.
Looking into numbers, Toyota sold 1,23,770 units in FY21. In comparison, the Japanese automotive giant could only manage to sell 78,262 units of its cars in FY20.
Apart from that, Toyota Kirloskar Motors also registered a YoY sales increase of around 14 per cent in March 2022 as the company managed to sell just 15,001 units last year during the same time.
Speaking about Toyota’s sales performance, Mr Atul Sood, Associate Vice President, Sales, and Strategic Marketing, TKM, “We have been witnessing tremendous demand from the market and our March wholesales stand testimony to the current demand trends. Not only that, it also reiterates the kind of popularity all Toyota models enjoy in their respective segments and the fact that we have been able to offer products basis our customers’ expectations. This is clearly reinforced with segment leading models like the Innova Crysta clocking almost 8000 units in just a single month.”
“Our focus will be to reach out to as many new Toyota customers as we can, more so as we also intend on expanding our footprints, especially in Tier II and Tier III towns beginning this new Financial Year.” He added.
Apart from that, Toyota will soon launch the CNG version of the 2022 Toyota Glanza in India. Thanks to the rising fuel prices, the launch of the CNG version of the Toyota Glanza CNG will attract more customers.
In addition to that, the CNG version of the 2022 Toyota Glanza will be an ideal choice for those who clock a lot of kilometres in their cars as the lower CNG fuel prices and higher mileage can quickly overcome the higher initial cost of ownership.
Speaking about the cost of ownership, prices for the 2022 Toyota Glanza premium hatchback ranges from Rs 6.39 lakh (ex-showroom, India) to Rs 9.69 lakh (ex-showroom, India). Expect, the CNG version of the Toyota Glanza to be priced around Rs 50,000 – Rs 70,000 more than its equivalent petrol counterpart.
The new 2022 Toyota Glanza comes with just one engine option and this engine is a 1.2-litre, naturally-aspirated, petrol engine with a mild-hybrid system and DualJet technology.
This is the same engine that powers the 2022 Maruti Suzuki Baleno and produces a peak power of 89bhp and 113Nm of peak torque. Like the new Baleno, the updated Glanza also comes with two gearbox options – a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT gearbox.
However, using CNG fuel, we expect this engine to produce around 76bhp of peak power and 98Nm of peak torque. In addition to that, we do not expect to see the 5-speed AMT gearbox in the upcoming CNG version of the Toyota Glanza.
In terms of design, we do not expect the upcoming CNG variant of the Toyota Glanza to sport a different design, however, we do expect a few ‘e-CNG’ badges around the car to let others know what you are driving.
Unlike the previous model, the 2022 Toyota Glanza is available in 4 trim levels. However, the AMT gearbox can be specified on the top three trims only.
On the inside, the new 2022 Toyota Glanza features an all-new dashboard that is identical to the 2022 Maruti Suzuki Baleno and comes with plenty of new features such as the all-new 9-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a new flat-bottom steering wheel, revised instrument console, wireless charging pad, connected-car tech, heads-up display, and many more.
In terms of safety, the updated Toyota Glanza comes with safety systems such as 6 airbags, Hill-Hold Assist, a 360-degree surround-view camera, reverse parking sensors, ABS, ESP, EBD, ISOFIX anchoring points and a few more.
Thoughts About Toyota’s Domestic Sales
Despite the ongoing pandemic related difficulties, Toyota Kirloskar Motors has shown a tremendous recovery in sales. Moreover, upcoming products such as the CNG version of the Glanza and Hilux pickup SUV are highly likely to boost the sales further.
