Toyota Motor Philippines is recalling a number of its high-performance GR Yaris hatchbacks because of its Millimeter Wave Sensor.
Part of the Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) system, the Millimeter Wave Sensor (aka radar sensor) along with a monocular camera helps the car detect objects such as another vehicle, and is integral to features like Pre-Collision Braking (PCB).
Toyota has discovered that 94 GR Yaris units, produced from June 3, 2021 to August 2, 2021 may not have its radar system initialized and/or activated. If this happens, the pre-collision braking system will not be able to detect a vehicle in front nor would it be able to provide warnings or braking assist. This may increase the risk of a crash in certain driving conditions.
Toyota says it has started to reach out to affected customers. It will then inspect and initialize the millimeter wave sensor at no cost to its customers.
