Entering the last quarter of 2022, Toyota has managed to maintain its market leadership position among non-national brands in Malaysia. In the past 10 months, it had recorded sales of 79,308 vehicles. Cumulatively, Toyota and Lexus sales amounted to 80,153 vehicles for the same year-to-date period. This is naturally significantly higher (by 47%) than the same period in 2021 (54,618 vehicles) due to the various disruptions to economic activities.
For October 2022 itself, UMW Toyota Motor sold 9,281 vehicles (9,175 of Toyota and 106 of Lexus); a slight increase over the preceding month’s total of 9,233. However, its sales is still trending upward. Since the start of the year, Toyota has consistently been a market leader, especially in the pickup truck segment.
“While economic conditions remain challenging, the car market has also been steadily recovering its strength in the course of the year. Thanks to the support of our loyal customers, demand for Toyota vehicles remains high and for those who have had to wait a bit longer for their new vehicles, we are working hard to ensure the quickest possible delivery of their vehicles,” said UMW Toyota Motor President, Ravindran. K.
“Our production is still partly affected but rest assured that we are doing our best to deliver new vehicles as quickly as possible,” he promised.
This assurance comes after it had launched the Toyota Veloz crossover. Though this is a contract assembly model, labour and component supply challenges still apply. “Response to the new Veloz has been extremely positive, with over 7,000 orders received even before the model was launched. This is not surprising as it is a Toyota, and the brand’s products are well known for high quality, durability and reliability. On top of trusted products, we go the ‘Extra Mile’ in providing the best ownership experience to every one of our customers,” said Ravindran K.
As the year draws to a close, UMWT is running festive promotions for selected models. The promotion on the Toyota Yaris starts with monthly instalments as low as RM498; and for Toyota Vios, as low as RM598. For selected variants of both models, there is also an additional RM4,000 discount.
