For the 70th anniversary of the Land Cruiser, Toyota has released a special-edition specification for its 79-series bakkies.
“The special edition model builds upon the core Land Cruiser credentials and adds a host of utility-boosting parts and visual enhancements to deliver a bespoke model,” said Toyota South Africa.
What’s new
The Toyota Land Cruiser 79 70th Edition bakkies are set apart by a unique 70-year emblem on the sides, heritage Toyota logos, and a heritage-inspired mesh grille.
“The rest of the package focuses on equipping the model with features which not only play the visual part, but deliver when the going gets tough,” said Toyota.
These functional components comprise a tubular rear step bumper, a detachable towbar, an inner load-bed protector, a tubular front steel bumper, and integrated winch preparation.
Inside the cabin, the 70th Editions come with unique grey seat covers with 70th-edition embroidery, Land Cruiser-branded floor mats, and a touchscreen audio system with integrated navigation and Bluetooth.
Additionally, the bakkies will only be available in Ivory White and Sand Beige exterior colours.
Engine
Under the hood, the vehicle is fitted with a 4.5-litre, V8, turbo-diesel engine that pairs to a five-speed manual transmission.
The setup generates 151kW and 430Nm – and sends power to all four wheels – with combined fuel consumption a hefty 11.6l/100km.
In the single cab, maximum payload capacity is then rated at 1,225kg, while the double cab has a maximum capacity of 1,095kg.
Both variants are capable of towing up to 3,500kg.
