The new Toyota Land Cruiser 300 will go on sale in South Africa in August, at a starting price of R1,283,200.
The large SUV is built on the company’s new TNGA-F ladder-frame platform, and retains the overall dimensions as the outgoing model.
At the front, the Land Cruiser 300 features a striking new grille with horizontal slats flowing into square LED headlights.
The redesigned rear then gets new trapezoidal tail lights, a new rear bumper, and a central Land Cruiser insignia.
Options
The Land Cruiser 300 will be sold in South Africa in three trim lines: GX-R, ZX, and GR-S.
“GX-R remains the utility-focused model and serves as the entry point to the range, while the ZX replaces the VX-R as the luxury model,” said Toyota.
For the first time on a Land Cruiser, the athletic GR Sport (GR-S) grade will also be offered as an off-road performance model.
It’s fitted with GR-exclusive exterior styling, 18-inch alloy wheels, and an “off-road-biased” specification list.
The ZX trim targets a more comfort-orientated crowd with 20-inch alloys, chrome detailing, and a “luxury” trim, said Toyota.
Standard equipment on the Land Cruiser 300 includes:

The GR-S and ZX trims add to this with power-fold-down third-row seats, a hands-free electric tailgate, a heated steering wheel, seat heating and ventilation for the first and second rows, a wireless charger, a 12.3-inch infotainment display, a 14-speaker JBL sound system, and a multi-terrain monitor connected to a 360-degree camera.
The ZX then gets a Wi-Fi-enabled rear-seat entertainment system, while the GR-S is treated to an electric kinetic dynamic suspension system (E-KDSS) to enhance its off-road capabilities.
“The advantage of the E-KDSS system is the ability to link the wheels together for excellent on-road handling and then unlock the stabiliser bars when required to promote excellent wheel articulation (+30mm versus the current model) for off-road use,” said Toyota.
“Both variants also feature additional drive select modes and a Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management system for superior vehicle control.”
In addition, both the GR-S and ZX trims are fitted with the Toyota Safety Sense driver assist system.
This enables lane trace assist with all-speed radar cruise control, blind spot monitoring, lane departure alert, rear cross-traffic alert with braking, and adaptive high beams.
The entry-level GX-R offers vehicle stability control, traction control, hill assist control, trailer sway control, and ABS with brake assist in the passenger safety department.
This model also sports a fabric upholstery, whereas the ZX and the GR-S come with leather trims – with multiple colour options on offer.
Engines
Buyers of the new Land Cruiser 300 have a choice between a 3.5-litre, V6, twin-turbo petrol engine, or a 3.3-litre, V6, turbo-diesel motor.
“Both powerplants focus on delivering increased efficiency, improved torque output, and elevated levels of refinement versus the outgoing V8-variants,” said the company.
The petrol motor produces 305kW and 650Nm, and achieves a combined fuel consumption of 12.1l/100km.
The diesel engine generates 225kW and 700Nm, and achieves a combined fuel consumption of 8.9l/100km.
Both specifications pair with a new 10-speed automatic transmission with low-range functionalities, and both reach a top speed of 210km/h.

“Petrol ZX models will go on sale early August with the diesel and GR-S derivatives following shortly thereafter,” said Toyota.
