Toyota Kirloskar Motor has announced that its wholesales in January 2022 stood at 7,328 units. That is a Y-o-Y decline of 34 per cent compared to January 2021 when the Japanese automaker sold 11,126 units in India. Toyota’s partnership with Maruti Suzuki bore fruit as the Toyota Glanza and Toyota Urban Cruiser have achieved the 1 lakh unit sales milestone. The two cars also helped Toyota reach 66 per cent first time buyers majorly from tier II and tier III cities.
“We started the new year with the launch of the new Camry Hybrid. Being the only locally manufactured strong, self-charging hybrid electric vehicle in India, the Camry Hybrid has created a niche for itself and has received very encouraging customer orders this past month. The Toyota Vellfire too, that defines sustainable luxury & indulgence for Indian customers, continues to garner healthy orders. Lastly, both the Innova and the Fortuner continue to pique interest, as both the models have robust customer orders and this has increased our order pipeline significantly”, said Atul Sood, Associate Vice President, Sales and Strategic Marketing at Toyota.
The company recently launched the new facelifted Camry Hybrid in India. The car features a tweaked exterior and new 18-inch alloys. The cabin gets a bigger 9.0-inch infotainment display and JBL audio system. Features include ventilated front seats, 10-way power adjustable driver seat, memory assisted tilt-telescopic steering adjust, wireless smartphone charging, heads-up display and others. Powered by a 2.5-litre petrol hybrid with 218bhp and mated to a CVT, the Camry Hybrid is priced at Rs 41.70 lakh (ex-showroom).
Toyota will also launch the much-awaited Hilux pickup truck in India by March this year. The vehicle will be offered in only one body type – double-cab four-door – and with one engine option. A more rugged look, both in terms of aesthetics and functionality, make the Hilux sport a true off-road appearance. Powered by the 2.8-litre engine from the Fortuner, it will come in only 4×4 variant with additional tech such as active traction control, locking differential, water wading capacity of 700mm, tyre angle monitor, electronic limited-slip differential making it very capable.
Speaking on the successful partnership with Maruti Suzuki, Sood added, “Last month also witnessed a very important milestone in terms of the Toyota Glanza and Urban Cruiser clocking cumulative wholesales of over one lakh units. Ever since its launch, the Glanza and the Urban Cruiser have helped TKM garner young-millennial customers who are not only seeking exceptional automobile ownership experience, but also the best balance of economically viable options.” Another offspring of the partnership, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz based Toyota Belta is also expected to be launched in India this year expanding the company’s portfolio.
