Toyota India has removed the 11-speaker JBL audio system from the Toyota Fortuner 4X4 and Legender 4X4 SUVs ahead of the implementation of the upcoming more stringent RDE and BS6 Phase 2 emission norms in the country.
In place of the 11-speaker JBL audio system, the Toyota Fortuner 4X4 and Legender 4X4 SUVs now come equipped with a more basic 6-speaker audio system. In addition to that, the downgraded audio system has not resulted in any price cut on the above-mentioned models.
Coming to the price, the Toyota Fortuner 4X4 SUV is priced at Rs 38.93 lakh (ex-showroom, India) for the variant equipped with the 6-speed manual gearbox. On the other hand, prices for the automatic version based on the same trim level stands at Rs 41.22 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
On the other hand, the Toyota Legender 4X4 comes exclusively with a 6-speed automatic transmission and this variant of the Toyota SUV is priced at Rs 46.54 lakh (ex-showroom, India) – Which is around Rs 5.32 lakh more expensive than the Fortuner 4X4 AT.
In addition to that, the Japanese car manufacturer is yet to confirm why it removed the 11-speaker JBL audio system from the Toyota Fortuner 4X4 and Legender 4X4 SUVs. However, we suspect rising input costs to be the primary reason behind this decision.
Speaking about the Toyota Fortuner and Legender, both SUVs are powered by the same 2.8-litre, turbocharged, 4-cylinder diesel engine. Moreover, this powertrain is tuned to push out 201bhp of peak power and 500Nm of peak torque.
Thoughts About Toyota Removing JBL Audio System
Manufacturers sometimes cut features on their models to balance the rising input costs. Following this strategy, car manufacturers can delay the price hike up to a certain extent to help them compete better in the market.
