Queensland student takes out Toyota’s drawing competition with a ‘sustainable off-roader' LandCruiser.
The winner of Toyota’s 15th Dream Car Art Contest has been named, with a 12-year-old student from Trinity Lutheran College in Queensland taking out the top spot.
Louis Hagemann’s winning entry was said to be inspired by the Toyota LandCruiser 79 Series, with a focus on important environmental issues and a fitting title: “Powered by Nature”.
The creation, which took six hours to complete, portrays a LandCruiser ute covered in plants and solar panels, with Louis saying: “My off-road vehicle is powered by renewable energy, uses solar energy to drive and is covered in plants to help regenerate the air we breathe”.
One of more than 2000 entries from artists around the country, the competition is open to three age categories – under 8 years, 8-11 years, and 12-15 years – with each winner awarded a Visa gift voucher.
Other notable entrants include 5-year-old Austin Cao’s cool ‘My Super Rocket Car’, featuring six fire wheels, along with Sakura Terauchi’s (7) ‘Fun Music Bus’: “Even on rainy days, Fun Music Bus can bring people happiness and joy. People smile, become kind and even birds sing. Music spills out of the bus and the bus keeps running!”
Hana Lee’s ‘SES Toyota’ also impressed judges, with the 10-year-old saying the SES Toyota features filters that enable the car to “turn the smoke from bushfires and/or polluted air into clean, purified air, as well as a fireproof covering so that you could drive even through fire to rescue people as well as animals like koalas and kangaroos in danger”.
Toyota Australia’s chief marketing officer, Vin Naidoo, said this year’s entries show that kids are really thinking and caring about the current societal issues that concern them.
“We received so many extraordinary artistic creations in this year’s contest and it’s such a joy to see that Toyota is inspiring tomorrow’s designers and engineers,” said Naidoo.
“It’s also very evident that key societal issues such as environment, sustainability, and happiness are at the forefront of Australian kid’s minds with each drawing portraying a solution to these current issues.”
