It’s official: The Land Cruiser name is returning to Toyota’s lineup in the United States. The company’s American arm took to Facebook early Tuesday morning to confirm the SUV’s comeback, sharing a selection of vintage Land Cruiser badges in a short video clip.
“Did you really think we’d be gone for long?” the video’s caption reads. “The legend returns.”
Toyota stopped selling the Land Cruiser in the U.S. after 2021, when the 200-series truck ended production. The new 300-series truck exists, but not for our market. If you want it right now, you’ll have to get the Lexus version, the LX600.
Toyota has yet to reveal any details about the Land Cruiser’s return, leaving us guessing what to expect. While we’d be overjoyed to see the full-size 300-series Land Cruiser come to our shores, rumors point to a different approach for the brand.
An unnamed source told Automotive News earlier this month Toyota will bring the Land Cruiser name back to the U.S. using the Land Cruiser Prado, a smaller, cheaper model sold overseas we usually only see as the Lexus GX Stateside. If that’s the plan, the new U.S.-market Land Cruiser would likely be based on the newly revealed GX shown last week.
