Toyota has announced it is to replace its Aygo with another small car, powered by internal combustion engines only.
Despite the move to electric by 2030, Toyota's hybrid-heavy range means its average CO2 emissions are low enough that it can commit to such a model.
The Aygo is built alongside the Citroen C1 and Peugeot 108 in the Czech Republic, and this new model will continue to be produced there. There are no plans for the C1 or 108 to be replaced in the same way.
There is not yet a name for the new A-segment model, not anything more than the image of Toyota's GA-B chassis you can see above. However, the car's styling is likely to follow the same cues as the current Yaris and feature some SUV-like features.
Toyota is likely to offer this new model with its 1.0-litre petrol engine and the choice of manual and CVT automatic gearboxes. It will probably be priced in line with the current Aygo – from around £12,500.
