Toyota has completely committed to the world of sports vehicles. The Japanese manufacturer is expanding its line of GAZOO Racing-tuned special editions. The Toyota bZ4X GR Sport Concept, which debuted at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2022, is the most recent proposal.
Toyota unveiled its new electric vehicle before the end of last year, 2021, with which it will attack a market category that it abandoned with the termination of production of the Avensis, and where the Camry’s days are numbered. Despite being a hybrid, the Japanese sedan has yet to fully penetrate the European market, therefore the new Toyota bZ4X will take over as the D segment’s representative.
But not with a combustion or hybrid model, but with a new generation electric crossover due to enter the market in 2022, and with wood as the leader. When you consider that Toyota has given GAZOO Racing’s sports division carte power to develop the range of sports versions like never before, the frosting on the cake for this new electric hasn’t taken long to arrive. The Toyota bZ4X GR Sport Concept will be shown at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2022, at least as a concept preview.
The Toyota bZ4X GR Sport Concept is a sports-inspired electric vehicle.
The bet of the Japanese corporation is presented with the aesthetics of the vehicles with the “GR Sport” mark and a more aggressive attitude, similar to the new competition with which it shares technology, the Subaru Solterra STI Concept. The electric crossover is distinguished by its body paint, which has a dark blue metallic gradient in certain areas and an attractive matt black on the doors, wheel arches, and front. The alloy wheels, which are notably bigger than on the production model, and the tires are dressed in the same color with a metallic finish.
Although a glance inside was not permitted, it was noted that the front seats had a more athletic layout. The only place where there are no differences is in the powertrain. Because the firm hasn’t revealed any information, it’s safe to infer that the most powerful version of the electric crossover will be hidden beneath the skin. Two electric motors with a combined output of 160 kW (217 CV) and total traction, all driven by a battery with a maximum autonomy of 460 kilometers.
Whether it has any chance of becoming a reality is currently unknown. The reality is that everything works in their favor; the sports brand has greater clout, having left its imprint on models like the Yaris, C-HR, Hilux, and, eventually, the Corolla, so what they can achieve is a true test for this electric SUV. Regardless, sales, which will begin in mid-2022, will reveal whether or not this option will be realized by the end of the decade.
