The burgeoning Indonesian electric vehicle (EV) market gets another new competitor. Hascar Automotive Group, currently a distributor for continental car brands in the archipelago, is planning to locally assemble (CKD) and sell this -lookalike EV known as the Skorpius AS100.
Currently, the 5-door EV you see here is just a prototype that Hascar is previewing. According to KupanganOTO, the AS100 is still going through the homologation process before it can officially be launched.
Hascar’s Director and CEO Yedi U. Sondy is quick to note that the car they have just previewed is just a prototype and the final product might differ from the car they have on display. However, we’re sure that the Alphard-like grille will be a permanent fixture on the car.
The company is aiming for a Q4 2022 launch, Hascar is still ironing out licencing and regulatory compliance issues related to investment and incentives.
Meanwhile, local assembly is also expected to start by the end of this year at PT Handal Indonesia Motor’s existing facilities.
The manufacturer has been producing cars in Indonesia for 30 years, the facility has once produced Nissans, Fords, and Hyundais. Currently, the plant is still producing the H1, better known as the Hyundai Starex to us.
