The new Honda Fit was recently unveiled, officially marking the end of the Jazz in South Africa.
The only similarities that the Fit share with the Jazz, however, are the long rooflines and short overhangs.
Apart from this, the Fit’s design is new both outside and in.
Below, we find out what you get for your money from the Executive trim – at a price of R389,900.
This is the top option until the hybrid model arrives later this year.
Specifications
The Fit Executive brings premium features in a small package, with leather upholstery, keyless entry and start, LED headlights, a multifunction steering wheel, and heated front seats as standard.
The range-topping specification also gets a few exclusive exterior bits, including chrome detailing, 16-inch alloy wheels, and silver side mirrors.
Additionally, every Fit provides automatic air-conditioning, all-round electric windows, cruise control, ECON mode, and a 7-inch digital instrument cluster.
The Executive trim then adds a 9-inch infotainment display on top of this, enabling Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Every model also sports the “Honda Magic Seats” – which let you fold a seat’s base upwards to transport taller objects.
As a result, the total luggage capacity goes from 309 litres to 1,210 litres when the rear seats are stowed away.
Rear legroom is also improved over the Jazz, thanks to a 54mm increase in overall length – to 4,043mm.
Its width remains identical, while the roofline has been lowered by 13mm to 1,537mm.
Driver assistance
The Honda Fit range boasts a 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating, as well as a host of advanced safety features.
Passive safety is taken care of by the standard fitment of front, side, and curtain airbags, an alarm and immobiliser, and auto locking.
In terms of active safety, the Executive offers ABS with brake hold, hill start assist, vehicle stability assist, and a rear-view camera with all-round parking sensors.
Performance
This Fit is powered by a 1.5-litre, petrol engine paired with a CVT transmission.
This delivers 89kW and 145Nm to the front wheels, and achieves a combined fuel consumption of 5.5l/100km.
A maximum braked towing capacity of 800kg is also available.
Price
The Honda Fit 1.5 DOHC i-VTEC Executive CVT has a South African price of R389,900.
With this you get a 5-year/200,000km warranty, a 4-year/60,000km service plan, and three years of AA roadside assistance.
