There are some images floating on the internet of some Lamborghinis being scrapped at Kurla, Mumbai. In the images, we can see two Aventadors, one is finished in yellow whereas the other one is finished in orange. There is also a damaged Lamborghini Gallardo that we can see in the pictures. All the vehicles are in very bad condition but it is not what you think.
These vehicles were made for a movie. “Made”, you must be wondering. Well, these are not original Lamborghinis, if you would look closely at the picture, you would see that the interior is of a first-generation Honda Civic. So, originally, these Lamborghinis were something else and then later on their exterior was modified to look like a Lamborghini.
The post where the images are shared also says that the cars were used in a movie. The movie had a scene in which these cars were crashed, this is the reason they are in such a bad shape. Movies often make such modified cars because it always makes financial sense to an old vehicle rather than buying a new sports car. Especially, when it costs multiple crores. Yes, the movies also take such cars on rent but they cannot do it if the scene is about crashing them.
So, if there is a scene that includes a crash, no one would want to crash a supercar. Such scenes are often done using CGI(Computer-generated imagery) or such modified cars. This helps the production house to save money. The close-up shots are then done with real sports cars and crash scenes are done with modified cars.
The pictures were shared on Instagram by rip_car. The post also says that there was some other sports car also. There was also a Ferrari and a Bugatti that was also being scrapped. Most probably these vehicles were also made for a scene. In the past stories, we have done stories in which regular vehicles were converted to look like sports cars.
Taarzan “The Wonder Car” now abandoned
You might remember the movie Taarzan- The Wonder Car in which there was a purple car that got very famous in India. It was designed by Dilip Chhabria. He tried to sell it for Rs. 2 Crores but no one would buy it. After a few years, he tried to sell the car for a mere Rs. 35 lakhs but still Dilip was not able to find any buyers. So, the car was abandoned and left to rot.
Taarzan was not made from the ground up. It was based on a Toyota MR2, a two-seater affordable sports car. The MR2 was powered by a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine that was mid-mounted and powered the rear wheels only. The engine was able to produce around 218 bhp.
Dilip Chhabria modified the exterior extensively to make it look like a hardcore sports car. It had a low-slung stance, aggressive bumpers, flared wheel arches and a unique body style. Needless to say, the car was able to mark its impression when it debuted in the film.
