Lexus must have spent a load of money on designing and engineering the Lexus Electrified Sport Concept that they didn’t have the anything left in the budget for the marketing team to hire some copywriters to pen a cooler sounding name for the electric speedster.
A touch tragic but remember, it’s better to be smarter than you look rather than looking smarter than you are.
The recently completed Goodwood Festival of Speed marked the European debut of the concept that is a strong hint towards Lexus’ vision for a future all-electric high-performance sports car.
They even went so far as to produce a video showing the concept emerging from its bespoke transit container. No wonder they couldn’t afford a creative for a better name.
Aside from the creatively named concept, Lexus also had the soon-to-be launched RZ 450e SUV, the all-electric UX 300e compact crossover and the plug-in hybrid electric NX 450h+ on display.
Goodwood also marked the first appearance outside of Japan since the concept was unveiled by Toyota Motor Corporation President Akio Toyoda in December 2021.
In a sea of some of the most exotic wheeled machinery to grace a strip of tarmac, the concept drew crowds of admirers across the four-day event.
Many of the motoring scribes went so far as to dub it the “a spiritual successor to the LFA,” as Autocar UK did. High praise indeed.
Lexus will be using the experience of developing the concept for other future EV models “as part of a drive to emphasise the brand’s dynamic focus.”
Don’t be quick to dismiss this as a purely conceptual exercise though, the Lexus Electrified Sport Concept is a vision for a future all-electric, high-performance model.
Initially designed at the marque’s Calty design studio in California, it boasts an understated presence that only Lexus seems to completely master. Bold proportions and a low ride height whispers performance that would put current EVs to shame.
Its potential for performance rests with its electric powertrain and solid state battery technology that suggests a century sprint time under the 2.0-second mark with a crusing range exceeding 700 km.
Comparisons with the LFA wasn’t hyperbole by the motoring media, it does lend inspiration from the legendary LFA and is a modern take on what the LFA might be in this day and electrified age.
Plus, it’s only fitting that the concept makes an appearance at Goodwood considering the LFA did the same a decade ago.
Back into its bespoke box goes the concept as it heads for Pebble Beach next.
