The VW T-Cross, at a starting price of R347,100, is currently the company’s best-selling SUV in South Africa.
The T-Cross was introduced to the country in late 2019 and slides in as the entry-level SUV from VW.
With an attractive look, impressive features, and a competitive starting price, the T-Cross climbed to the third best-selling spot for VW just two months after its release and has stayed in the top ranks ever since.

Features
The entry-level VW T-Cross Comfortline offers less extravagant features than its more expensive siblings – however, buyers of this model are still treated to a range of capabilities that leave little to be desired.
By offering LED headlights with daytime running lights, cornering fog lamps, 16-inch alloy wheels, rain-sensing wipers, all-round electric windows, manual air conditioning, a leather multifunction steering wheel, and cruise control, this SUV makes sure to meet as many needs as possible.
In addition, a 6.5-inch Composition Colour infotainment system adds Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and plays through a six-speaker layout.
Buyers looking to spruce up this specification can then add a variety of accessories at an additional cost.
These include cameras, larger displays, wireless charging pads, a Bose sound system, and an array of sensors that enable abilities like lane-keep assist and blind-spot monitoring.
Practicality is another area where the T-Cross shines. It is able to carry up to 377 litres of cargo in the boot, while the integrated roof rails support a 70kg load.
If the optional removable towbar is fitted – at a cost of R4,800 – you can tow up to a maximum braked capacity of 1 tonne, too.
In terms of safety systems, features such as driver fatigue detection, hill-start assist, ABS with brake assist, front and rear parking sensors, an alarm with interior monitoring, an immobiliser, and six airbags are included across the range.
The T-Cross also scores a 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating and supports We Connect Go capabilities.
The latter allow the owner to connect their smartphone to the SUV in order to book service appointments, get 24-hour emergency assistance, keep a digital logbook, and access vehicle information such as fuel levels and mileage without having to be with the vehicle.
Performance
Driving the entry-level T-Cross Comfortline is a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder, turbo-petrol motor paired with a five-speed manual transmission.
The set-up generates 70kW and 175Nm, with power sent to the front wheels. This is the case regardless of the specification.
This produces a 0-100km/h sprint of 11.5 seconds and a top speed of 180km/h – with combined fuel consumption rated at 5.5l/100km.

The VW T-Cross 1.0TSI 70kW Comfortline has a South African starting price of R347,100.
Included in the price is a 3-year/120,000km warranty and a 3-year/45,000km service plan.
