In South Africa, Jeep offer the fourth-cheapest full-size SUV.

It’s also fitted with rear parking sensors, emergency braking, cruise control, and front and passenger airbags, giving the Compass a 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating.
Under the hood is a 1.4-litre, turbo-petrol motor that generates 125kW and 250Nm. Power is handled by a 6-speed manual transmission, and drive is sent to the front wheels only.
Combined fuel consumption is rated at 7.4l/100km, while 0-100km/h acceleration comes in at 9.5 seconds.
The Jeep Compass 1.4T Longitude has a South African price of R399,900 – which includes a 3-year/100,000km warranty and service plan.
Mahindra XUV500 2.2CRDe W4
Mahindra builds a few of the country’s cheapest SUVs, with the XUV500 being the cheapest full-size model.
This entry-level trim comes with a 6-inch monochrome infotainment display that is Bluetooth capable, automatic headlights and windscreen wipers, automatic temperature control, cruise control, and electric windows.
It also offers dual airbags, ABS with EBD, hill hold and descent control, and an electronic stability program with rollover mitigation which assures the XUV500 a 4-star ANCAP safety rating from “2012 onwards”.
The 2.2-litre, turbo-diesel motor provides 103kW and 330Nm of torque, and drives the SUV through the front wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission.
Combined fuel consumption then comes in at 6.5l/100km.
The Mahindra XUV500 2.2CRDe W4 has a South African price of R326,999 – which includes a 5-year/150,000km warranty and a 5-year/100,000km service plan.
Haval H6 1.5T Luxury
The Haval H6 is China’s top-selling SUV, according to the company.
This H6 comes standard with a Bluetooth-capable audio system, synthetic leather seats, cruise control, automatic air conditioning, and all-round electric windows.

JMC Landwind 5 2.0T Lux
The cheapest full-size SUV in South Africa comes from the Chinese brand JMC, in the form of the Landwind 5.
It boasts a radio system, electric windows with an automatic windows closer, front and rear reading lights, power outlets, and a demister.
This is in addition to park distance control, dual airbags, ABS with EBD, and an anti-theft immobiliser.
There are no official crash test results for this vehicle, but a 2016 review from News24 stated that it achieved a 2-star Euro NCAP rating.
At the front lies a 2.0-litre, turbo-petrol motor that produces 140kW and 250Nm, mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.
This motor drives the front wheels only, and achieves a combined fuel consumption of 8.5l/100km, along with a top speed of 185km/h.
