Tesla has begun to enable in-car purchases and subscriptions with its latest software update.
As part of software update 2021.40.6, users on Reddit have found that they are now able to access a new “Upgrades” tab in the Tesla menu.
For example, a new Premium Connectivity Subscription option starts at $9.99 per month and offers navigation, live traffic visualisation, satellite-view maps, video streaming, caraoke, musing streaming, and an internet browser.
Users can then swipe to subscribe, while a notice above reads “By swiping right, I agree to the above recurring payments and Terms and Conditions.”
Prior to this new update, owners needed to log into their Tesla accounts on the website or app to purchase upgrades that could cover everything from performance and range enhancements to the “Full Self-Driving package.”
This new functionality seems to have been in the works for a while with Tesla – according to Electrek, the automaker started selling Model S vehicles with software-locked ranges. However, this was a one-off.
