It looks like Tesla is about to start deliveries of the revised premium duo Model S and Model X in China and Europe. Among other indications, a German internet forum reported that several customers had been informed that their cars would be delivered before the end of the year.
In Europe, Tesla has been accepting pre-orders for the Plaid versions of the revised Model S and Model X since the beginning of August. At the time, the US electric carmaker announced the first deliveries for November or December 2022.
In the meantime, there are several indications that Tesla will be able to meet this deadline. In the German online forum TFF, for example, several customers recently wrote that they had been called by Tesla regarding delivery before the end of the year. The website Teslamag also reported, citing a YouTube channel, that Model S and Model X vehicles that look like European versions have been spotted by a drone on the grounds of the Tesla factory in Fremont.
In China, there are more official indications of an imminent launch of the two electric cars. Both models are now officially listed on the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s (MIIT) list of vehicles exempt from purchase tax, in both long-range and plaid variants. According to CN EV Post, the Model S Plaid has now been spotted in China for the first time. The publication reported that a customer with a pre-order for the Model S Plaid received a request from Tesla to make the final payment to prepare for delivery.
In the US, the refreshed premium models are already back online. Tesla already started the first deliveries to US customers in June 2021 (Model S) and October 2021 (Model X). This was by no means a smooth delivery start with a number of delays.
For Europe, the market launch of the two models has already been delayed several times. Their delivery was originally supposed to start in September 2021 but was postponed several times in the online configurator. In October 2021, the date was moved forward to the “end of 2022”. At the time, the Model S Plaid cost 126,990 euros, while the Model X Plaid was even slightly cheaper than the Model S at 116,990 euros.
These prices are now outdated. The Model S Plaid will now cost at least 137,990 euros in Europe. The Model X Plaid is listed in the Tesla configurator for at least 140,990 euros. In both cases, the vehicles are painted white and have smaller rims (Model S: 19-inch, Model X: 20-inch). Other paint finishes cost between 1,800 and 2,200 euros extra, the two-inch larger rims cost 4,900 or 5,900 euros more.
In the electric cars’ interiors, the standard finish is black, and the white or cream options cost 2,400 euros. In the case of the Model X, it is worth mentioning that the German configurator currently only lists the version with six seats. As with the Model 3/Y, the prices for the two Autopilot options “Enhanced Autopilot” and “Full Potential for Autonomous Driving” cost 3,800 and 7,500 euros more respectively.
Unlike the Model 3/Y, the predicted delivery time does not change when ordering the base model or optional extras – the display remains at “December 2022 – February 2023”. Further versions of the revised Model S and Model X are to follow next year.
