Move over Lamborghini and Aston Martin, the Tesla Model X Plaid has just thrown down the gauntlet. Of course, we all pretty much knew that this day was coming but it’s another story to see it take place outside of a testing facility and that’s exactly what we got today as one Model X Plaid owner finished a 1/4-mile acceleration test in just 9.83 seconds. Now we get to put that in perspective just a little bit as we break down the video.
No telling exactly where or when this video was shot but it was just uploaded to the DragTimes.com Instagram yesterday. It is most certainly not on a sanctioned drag strip. In it, we see what’s reported to be a 2022 Tesla Model X Plaid taking off from a dead stop after some traffic drives by in the other direction.
From that moment forward, the Model X Plaid takes just 2.74 seconds to go from 0-60. That’s much faster than the Lamborghini Urus which does that deed in 3.1 seconds and lays waste to the new Aston Martin DBX707 which needs 3.3 seconds.
It continues to rocket forward in a very quiet android-like manner until it covers 1,320 feet (402 m) from where it started and the timer stops dead at 9.83 seconds. When that moment comes, the Model X Plaid is blitzing down the street at 146 mph (234 kph) and that’s just about where the video ends. Regardless of the questionable legality of this test, and assuming everything we’re seeing is completely legitimate, there’s little doubt about which super-SUV is the quickest off the line on sale right now.
Aston Martin, for instance, hasn’t released any info on exactly how fast the DBX707 is down the same distance but we can infer that it’s likely no faster than the Lamborghini Urus since the big bull is already out ahead after 60mph. With that said, the Lamborghini eclipses the 1/4-mile in 11.3 seconds at 121 mph (194 kph). The Model X Plaid was 3-hundredths of a second away from being a full 1.5-seconds faster than the Italian model in second place.
That’s the kind of crazy speed we’re talking about here and anyone can just go buy a Model X Plaid and drive five other people around in it like it’s a Kia Sedona. Tesla has a lot of stuff they need to get figured out but going fast in a straight line is not one of those problems.
