Less than two weeks after Tesla bumped the opening price for its Model 3 to over $60,000, the US-based carmaker has increased prices across the Model 3 range.
Earlier this month the price of the range-opening Model 3 jumped from $59,900 plus on-road costs to $60,900.
Now, that base price has crept up another $3000 to $63,900 before on-roads.
The other two variants kept their pricing steady in early March, but they have also copped an increase.
The Long Range is also up by $3000 to $76,200, while the range-topping Performance is up by $2271 and is now priced from $88,900.
This price lift gives Tesla rival Polestar an advantage, with the Polestar 2 EV starting from $59,900 before on-road costs for the single-motor Standard Range. The single-motor Long Range is $64,900 and the dual-motor Long Range costs $69,900.
While they are technically considered SUVs under Australian vehicle classifications, other similarly positioned Model 3 rivals include the freshly launched Kia EV6 from $67,990 and the Hyundai Ioniq 5 from $71,900.
The Volvo XC40 Recharge, Mercedes-Benz EQA, Mini Electric, Mazda MX-30 and Lexus UX300e are other EVs in the Model 3’s crosshairs.
As reported earlier this week, the delivery time for the Model 3 has blown out to six-to-nine months, according to the Tesla Australia website.
Australian-market Model 3s are now sourced from Tesla’s Shanghai factory, and while supply was initially very good with a wait time of around three weeks in October, parts shortages and shipping and supply chain delays have pushed out delivery times.
The Model 3 was Australia’s best-selling EV in 2021, capturing 12,094 sales, which is more than double the haul of all other EVs combined.
The related Model Y SUV was scheduled to arrive last year but has been pushed out and is now expected in the first half of 2022.
