Tesla has now lowered the prices of their stocked EVs in China as the company prepares for the re-launch of US-built Tesla Model S and the Model X into the Chinese market.
It seems there is a push get more cars delivered to customers in the final quarter of 2022 and to make this happen, the price of any stocked Tesla Model 3 or Model Y have been lowered by up to $A1,710 (currency translation). It applies to customers who accept the delivery of a new or demo Tesla before November 30.
Customers who take delivery between December 1 and December 30 will receive an $A855 discount off the retail price.
One of the challenges of using a build-to-order production method that EV brands like Tesla offer are that if a customer cancels their order, that order has to be allocated to other willing customers.

This price reduction is designed to spur demand and is done to on-sell the previously cancelled orders.
In October, Tesla also cut prices across its Shanghai-built EV models for local customers. This apparently crashed Tesla’s website configurator as customers responded to the news.
While all this is going on, overall demand for Tesa’s products in Australia remains high. All order holders of the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y Performance variants are waiting more than 6 months for deliveries since placing their orders.
Tesla overall is in a very strong position to pull various short-term levers to generate demand and it continues to showcase new products in markets like China.
