The electric vehicles (EVs) manufacturing sector has seen a drastic change in India. It was only recently that the demand for EVs started to pick up in the country. The Government of India is also rooting for the EV sector’s growth. At the COP26, India has pledged to reduce its carbon emissions to net-zero by the year 2070. Further, the country has also mentioned that it is trying to improve the demand for EVs. It plans on achieving EV sales accounting for 30% electric cars and 80% two and three-wheelers by 2030.
At this juncture, it’s only natural for EV makers to step into India. One such renowned brand that has been wanting to enter India is Tesla. The US EV giant has been trying to negotiate with the Indian Government to assist it.
As per a new communication by the government, for the brand to get tax rebates in India, it would need to source at least $500 million of auto components from the country. This commitment is the only way for its request to cut down import tax on Tesla vehicles to get considered. So that’s that!

As of now, the brand is yet to take a decision to comply with the terms and conditions of the Indian Government. Even so, there is a huge fanbase for Tesla Vehicles in India. The proof is the country’s first Tesla Model 3 that swishes past, on the streets, just like many other privately imported Tesla cars.

The Tesla Model 3 is a compact executive, fastback sedan that looks stunning from all angles. The first production vehicle rolled off the production line on July 7, 2017. Since then, the car has received updates and remains a people’s champion.

What’s special about the Tesla Model 3 in India?
The Tesla Model 3 has also achieved NHTSA 5-star safety ratings in every category. The electric car is offered in three variants. There is Performance, a Long-Range AWD & a Standard Plus. The ’Performance’ variant has the capacity to clock 0 to 97kmph in just a matter of 3.6 seconds. Meanwhile, the Standard variant can go 0-97kmph in 5.3 seconds and the long-range variant can do the same in 4.4 sec.
As for its motor, it comes with a permanent magnet synchronous reluctance motor. Tesla also offers two battery packs options- 50 kWh and 75 kWh. The Model 3 has a driving range of 350km thanks to the 50kWh battery pack. But the 75kWh battery pack has the potential to keep the car going for about 500 km on a single charge.
Expected Price
