This Tesla-based hearse is the result of a collaboration between Coleman Milne and BINZ International, the former a Bolton based limousine and hearse maker and the latter also a hearse maker based east of Stuttgart in Germany. It’s…challenging to look at, we think you’ll agree.
Based on a Tesla Model S, the Coleman Milne BINZ.E has extensive modifications, as you can imagine, including lengthening the chassis itself to accommodate the extended rear…erm…dead body holder bit. It’s been strengthened to hold the extra weight, as has the suspension.
The front end is completely stock, as is the drivetrain, meaning that this is almost certainly the quickest hearse ever made; you don’t want to be late for your appointment with God or Satan, right? Coleman Milne quotes a 220-mile range for the model, and although the Model S’s three-second 0-62mph time will probably have taken a hit, we’d bet our life that it’ll get the benchmark in less than five.
Obviously a more pertinent benefit of the electric drivetrain is its smooth, silent running; road testers still refer to the combustion-less drivetrain of an electric car as “eerie”, so you can imagine how apt that word is when driving one with a dead body in the back. Shudder.
As you can probably tell, these images are rendered (or very heavily Photoshopped, at least) but we’re assured this is a real thing and will be offered to funeral directors imminently.
Lee Hudson, Coleman Milne’s MD, said: “As attitudes among policymakers and the general public shift towards greater environmental sustainability it is important that the funeral sector takes stock of its own approach to climate change. The BINZ.E shows it is possible to deliver efficiency and elegance in harmony with social change.”
