Tesla said on Sunday that it delivered 343,830 vehicles in the third quarter of 2022, a 42 percent increase from the vehicles that it sold in the third quarter of 2021.
In addition, the company was able to produce 365,923 cars, compared last year’s 237,823.
The 343, 830 delivered vehicles only shows that Tesla has managed to bounce back from “a slower second quarter.” The company experienced a slower second quarter due to the factory shutdowns in relation to COVID-19 restrictions.
Tesla is Facing Difficulties in Transporting its Vehicles
The Verge noted that the company managed to deliver 18,672 of Model S and X for the third quarter. Meanwhile, Model 3 and Y accounted for 325,158 of the vehicles delivered.
According to Tesla, the production of its vehicles has grown. However, as the company’s production increased, they had experienced a growing difficulties in shipping the cars to customers during the last days of the quarter.
At the end of the quarter, some of the electric vehicles (EV) from Tesla are in transit. The company added that some of the EVs “have been ordered and will be delivered to customers upon arrival at their destination.”
Because of the peak logistics weeks, securing vehicle transportation capacity and at a reasonable cost have been a difficult task for the automaker. This is one of the reasons why some customers haven’t received their EVs yet.
It only means that Tesla is going to try to do something to about its “legendary end-of-the-quarter” pushes, as per TechCrunch. According to CEO Elon Musk, the company is trying for a steadier approach.
He noted that when there is an end of quarter rush, customer experience suffers. Therefore, the company will try to employ a steadier approach to address the issue.
Tesla Produced More Vehicles in the Third Quarter
Despite Tesla’s 343,830 vehicles delivery record, this still fell short of the 359,162 cars that the analysts has expected on average, according to Reuters.
Moreover, the automaker company wasn’t able to deliver all of the 365,923 cars that it managed to produce in the third quarter.
This is a rare case for the company as its deliveries are typically similar to its production in the past quarters. The company is said to be facing challenges in transporting its vehicles.
There has been an increasing demand for EVs worldwide. It has become a primary mode of transportation for an increasing number of people, and Tesla is one of the leading company in the auto industry.
In the recent year, Tesla has invested greatly in its factory in China as the demand for EVs in the country increased.
However, operations in the Shanghai factory have been hobbled due to COVID-related shutdowns and component shortages. This resulted in the slowdown of EV sales in the second quarter of this year.
Since lockdown in Shanghai has been lifted, Tesla was able to ramp up its production this quarter. Moreover, with the new Gigafactories in Texas and Berlin starting its operation, the company was able to produce more vehicles this third quarter.
