The pre-order for the pickup truck is now at 1.9 million.
The rolling out of the first Cybertruck production model at its factory in Texas was the biggest news from Tesla this month. While that sounded like the end of a long wait, a crowd-sourced data tracker suggested prospective buyers might have to wait for five years before receiving their unit.
The tracker revealed that there are now over 1.9 million orders for the unconventional-looking pickup truck. This data reflects Tesla CEO Elon Musk's statement regarding the massive demand for the Cybertruck, saying it is “so off the hook, you can't even see the hook.”
Of note, the pre-order deposit is only $100, so not every reservation will likely push through with ordering.

The reservation equates to $194 million in total revenue, with the dual-motor variant projected to bring the most cash flow to the company at 43.9 percent. The tri-motor and quad-motor variants, respectively, follow it. As for the single motor variant, it only accounts for 8.2 percent of the said total revenue.
Despite being late to the party, the data shows consumers are still interested in owning a Cybertruck. It was unveiled back in 2019 and was postponed for various reasons, such as the disruption of the pandemic. It will compete against the Ford F-150 Lightning, Rivian R1T, GMC Hummer EV Pickup, and Chevrolet Silverado EV.

We still aren't sure how the projected five-year waiting time will affect the long pre-order list, but the Cybertruck seems to have a promising future in the EV pickup market. After all, Musk claimed the company could sell between 250,000 and 500,000 units per year, depending on the demand.
Based on Tesla's statement last year, the EV maker is targeting to start deliveries in mid-2023. And by the following year, mass production for the truck is scheduled to begin – initially in the US and then in other parts of the world.
