Tesla manufactured 440,808 and delivered 422,875 EVs in the first quarter of 2023 – a new record in both categories. The EV maker presented its global production figures for the first quarter of 2022. Delivery figures are up 36 per cent compared to the 310,048 reported during the same period last year. Compared to the already record-breaking figures of Q4 2022, deliveries are up four per cent.
To that end, Tesla built around 19,437 Model S/X vehicles from January to the end of March (10,695 delivered). The number of Model 3/Y vehicles produced was around 421.371 vehicles (412,180 delivered). Production and delivery figures are not broken down by region. However, the carmaker writes in its release that „we continued to transition towards a more even regional mix of vehicle builds, including Model S/X vehicles in transit to EMEA and APAC.“
This comes after Tesla already announced record figures for the last quarter, Q4 2022, when the company made 439,701 electric cars, delivering 405,278. In total, the carmaker produced nearly 1.37 million vehicles in 2022 – more than 47 per cent more than in the same period the year before. Production was driven mainly by Model 3 production and sales figures.
And those are not the only records Tesla got to celebrate in these past days. According to a post on Twitter, the carmaker built 4.000 Model Y at its Giga Texas last week. And production hit 5.000 EVs at the Gigafactory in Grünheide, Germany.
Tesla will present its financial result later this month on 19 April.
The beginning of the year was marked by repeated price cuts by Tesla, including in the US, Europe and China. A move that sparked a „price war,“ with other carmakers also cutting prices to compete with Tesla and increase sales.
There are currently four Gigafactories worldwide: two in the US, one in Shanghai and one in Germany. A fifth plant will be built in Mexico, CEO Elon Musk announced in March.
