Speaking about the Tata Punch, the latest micro-SUV from Tata Motors is one of the safest cars in India with a 5-star safety rating for adult protection from Global-NCAP. Apart from that, the micro-SUV from Tata Motors scored 16.45 points out of 17 points – Making Tata Punch the safest car in India.
Under the skin, the new Tata Punch uses the same ALFA-ARC platform from the Tata Altroz and comes equipped with safety features such as dual front airbags, ABS, EBD, cornering stability control, ISOFIX child seats, first-in-segment ‘Brake Sway Control’, and many more.
In terms of design, the Tata Punch micro-SUV looks very bold, thanks to its almost identical silhouette to the original Tata HBX concept car and the overall design remains very little changed from the original concept car itself.
Moreover, the Tata Punch has a slightly smaller footprint than the Tata Nexon and Tata Altroz as the micro-SUV measures 3,827mm long, 1,742mm wide, and 1,615mm tall. However, thanks to its very bold SUV-like stance, the Tata Punch looks a bit bigger than its dimensions on paper.
Keeping up with the times, Tata Motors has loaded the Tata Punch micro-SUV with many features such as a large 7-inch Harman touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, iRA connected car tech, a semi-digital instrument console, multi-function steering wheel, automatic climate control, natural voice recognition function for voice commands, smart keyless entry, push-button start/stop, power-operated ORVMs with auto-folding, cruise control and many more.
In addition to these features, Tata Motors has added a feature called ‘Terrainpro’ that urges the driver to activate the system when the car detects traction loss at its wheels. Once the system is activated by the driver, the infotainment unit will display a series of instructions to help the driver out of the low-traction situation.
Powering the Tata Punch is an uprated 3-cylinder, 1.2L naturally-aspirated, Revotron petrol engine with ‘Dynapro Technology’. The Dynapro Technology is essentially a ram air intake system that improves combustion efficiency and provides better low-end torque.
Tata Motors claims that this engine produces 84.48bhp of peak power at 6,000rpm and 113Nm of peak torque at 3,300rpm. Moreover, the Tata Punch comes with a choice of either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT gearbox.
Thoughts About Tata Punch
The new Tata Punch is currently the safest SUV available in the market, which makes it a tempting proposition. Moreover, the micro-SUV still offers great value for money despite the price hike witnessed by a few models.
