Tata Altroz DCA launched in India at a starting price of Rs 8.09 lakh, ex-showroom. Tata Motors has launched the Altroz DCA in the Indian market with prices between Rs 8.09 lakh and Rs 9.89 lakh. These prices are only introductory and are expected to be hiked eventually.
The Altroz DCA remains identical to the standard petrol-powered Atroz, with the only difference being the new DCT gearbox that drives the premium hatchback. The features list and other mechanicals remain the same.
Tata Motors first launched the Altroz back in January 2020. It was a no-brainer that everyone instantly took a liking to the hatchback, especially given its stylish design language and its lengthy list of features. Over 1.25 lakh units of the Tata Altroz have been sold since then. Tata Motors has launched multiple variants and editions of the Altroz in the last two years.
Now, the brand has launched the new Altroz DCA. The biggest difference when it comes to the DCA is of course the new dual-clutch transmission. Tata Motors is calling it the DCA (Dual-Clutch Automatic). It is essentially a proper DCT gearbox with lots of improvements according to Tata Motors.
Tata Motors claims the gearbox has been specifically developed for Indian road conditions and everything that Indian roads can throw at it. According to the brand, this isn’t just a normal DCT but has been reworked heavily. It features Auto Park Lock which automatically engages the park mode when the driver exits the vehicle without engaging Park mode. This will prevent the hatchback from rolling ahead or backward unintentionally.
It also gets shift-by-wire, which means the shifting is entirely done electronically. According to Tata Motors, this has also quickened the shifting speeds by a large margin. The new gearbox in the Tata Altroz also features an active cooling system that aids in keeping the transmission cool at all times.
With Machine Learning, the gearbox adapts to the driver’s specific driving style. It also features what Tata calls a self-healing mechanism. This is essentially a flushing mechanism that keeps first and grime away in turn enhancing engine life.
This DCT gearbox is driven by a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder naturally-aspirated engine that puts out 84.8bhp at 6,000rpm and 113Nm at 3,300rpm. It is the same 1.2-litre Revotron engine that is quite peppy and pleasant to drive. However, we do wish that the DCA was launched with the more powerful i-Turbo turbo-petrol engine. This is now expected to happen at a later date.
Not much has changed in terms of the design. Up front is the same mature yet sporty design that grabs eyeballs even today. You get a stylish fog lamp and headlamp setup with LED DRLs. Then there’s the signature grille finished in gloss black. The blacked-out ORVMs get chrome accents.
The sportiness is only enhanced by the 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. At the rear, the sporty and premium theme continues with several blacked-out elements. Even the roof is finished in black.
As aforementioned, the features list remains identical. You get ambient lighting, a sliding armrest for the occupants up front, cooled glovebox, rear AC vents, etc. Infotainment duties are handled by a 7.0-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Audio is reproduced via a premium 8-speaker Harman audio system. It is also equipped with steering-mounted controls, analogue-digital instrumentation, etc.
The Tata Altroz set the standard for safety in the segment when it was first launched and it is still one of the safest cars in the premium hatchback segment. It gets dual airbags, ABS with EBD, child safety locks, ISOFIX anchorages for child seats, reverse parking sensors, voice safety alerts, etc.

Thoughts On Tata Altroz DCA Being Launched In India
The Tata Altroz is without a doubt, one of the most lucrative options in the premium hatchback space. However, it lacked a proper DCT gearbox until now. Tata Motors has now equipped it with what seems like a great gearbox. However, it would have been much better if the same gearbox had been made available with the turbo-petrol engine Tata already has on hand. We do expect this combination to make it into production eventually.
