New car wholesales in India continue to slow down their fall in November at -14.4% to 245,262 units, leading to a year-to-date tally up 32.8% to 2,822,461. Once again both Maruti Suzuki (-19.2%) and Hyundai (-24.2%) fall faster than the market to hold 44.7% and 15.1% share respectively. Tata (+37.6%) goes against the negative context with a splendid gain leading it to to a strong 12.1% share vs. 10.5% so far this year. Mahindra (+6.5%) is also up in 4th place but Kia (-32.4%) is back to reality after an extended honeymoon period with the Indian customer. Toyota (+52.8%) and Volkswagen (+123.4%) score the largest gains in the Top 10 but Renault (-50.4%), Honda (-45.4%) and MG (-40.4%) implode. Nissan (+1413.9%) is lifted by the Magnite with Skoda (+108%) and Jeep (+48.4%) also managing year-on-year upticks.
Model-wise, the Maruti Wagon R (+3.7%) climbs three spots on October to snap the pole position both for the month and YTD, followed by the Maruti Swift (-21.2%) now also #2 YTD. The Maruti Alto (-9.8%) is down two ranks to #3 while the Maruti Vitara Brezza (+37.3%) leaps up 8 spots to #4. The Hyundai Creta (-14.3%) is also up 8 to #5, whereas the Maruti Baleno (-44.4%) freefalls in 6th place and loses its YTD pole position. Outstanding score for the Tata Nexon (+63.3%) up one rank on last mont to #7 and the last Top 10 member in positive. The Kia Seltos (-3.8%) and Maruti Ertiga (-8.4%) however keep their fall below the market rate. New last month and directly #10, the Tata Punch is down 4 spots to a still very respectable 14th place. It is the best-selling recent launch above the Mahindra XUV700 (#25), VW Taigun (#29), Hyundai Alcazar (#33), Nissan Magnite (#35) and Renault Kiger (#37).
