Honda Malaysia is continuing its effort to get ALL owners of Honda vehicles affected by the Takata airbag inflator recall to bring their cars in for a FREE replacement. This is following another confirmed death on 24 September due to the defective Takata airbag inflator in a 2009 Honda City.
According to Honda Malaysia, its efforts to bring awareness to the affected owners include:
- Mailing more than 735,400 letters to affected customers
- Blasting more than 730,000 SMS to affected customers
- Making phone calls to more than 54,000 affected customers
- Sending emails to more than 35,800 affected customers
- Advertising campaigns and issuing numerous press releases to notify the public

- Conducting outreach campaigns at all on-ground activities and roadshows
- Sharing information about the recall in Honda’s ‘With Dreams’ magazine
Despite these measures, a large number of Honda owners still have not responded to this recall. Based on Honda Malaysia’s record on affected Honda vehicles, the Central region has the highest number of vehicles (23%) that have not replaced the Takata front airbag inflators, compared to the Northern and Southern regions at 9% and 8% respectively. As such, Honda Malaysia continues to urge affected Honda customers, especially those in the Central region, to make an appointment to replace the affected Takata driver front airbag inflators as soon as possible.
1. Service Central Hubs Extension
Perhaps these affected owners are too busy to save their own lives or that of their loved ones. Realizing this, Honda Malaysia has set up temporary Service Central Hubs for this replacement exercise and will extend this service until 31 December 2016 so that everyone can find the time within these 2.5 months. Refer to bottom of this page for the locations and operating hours.
2. Mobile Hubs Extension
For even more convenience to the affected owners, Honda Malaysia is also expanding its Mobile Hubs to shopping malls in the Central region. These Mobile Hubs in malls will be operational on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm and will be located at identified shopping malls in the Klang Valley area.
Please refer to bottom of this page for Mobile Hubs locations and operating hours for the month of October 2016.
From 1 August – 30 September, Honda Malaysia have replaced more than 62,200 units of Takata front airbag inflators, in which about 11,300 units were replaced at the temporary service hubs.
According to Honda Malaysia’s announcement in August 2016, the company has 100% availability of the Takata driver front airbag and continues to urge affected customers, in particular those in the Central region to make an appointment with their preferred Honda authorized dealers, Central Hub or Mobile Hubs to have their affected airbag inflators replaced.
Honda Malaysia also announced that parts for the Takata passenger front airbag inflators are gradually arriving and are expected to be at 55% by end of December 2016.
Affected Honda owners are encouraged to check the Takata passenger front airbag inflators stock availability status at www.honda.com.my or www.productrecall.honda.com.my. Notification letters will also be sent to inform customers on stock availability.
Honda Malaysia once again extends its sincere apologies for not being able to secure 100% availability due to the global shortage of Takata passenger front airbag inflators and is working to ensure that there will be sufficient parts for Takata passenger front airbag inflator replacements.
Please contact your authorized dealer for an appointment or call the Honda Toll Free number (1-800-88-2020) to make an appointment with Central Hub.
On Honda Malaysia’s part, it continues to alert owners via increased frequency of postings on social media and SMS blasts. If you are a Honda owner affected by this recall, please act on it now. If you know a Honda owner affected by this recall, please strongly advise that person to do the necessary.
