0Overview0
A drag race between a naturally-aspirated and a turbocharged sports car
For a long time, the R8 V10 remained the flagship car and the most powerful offering from Audi in India. It has a reputation for being one of the most usable supercars, especially as a daily driver. It was the last Audi car on sale in India with a naturally-aspirated engine behind it. While the Audi R8 V10 is still on sale in several global markets, it left India as a part of Audi’s restructuring strategy for our market.
And that too desi style
On the other hand, is the Ferrari 488 Spider. It has that quintessential Italian styling, a fire-breathing and more powerful twin-turbo V8 and the iconic prancing horse logo on it. It was on sale in India well before F8 Tributo succeeded it worldwide and has been one of the highest-selling Ferraris in India.
0The Specifications0
The Audi R8 V10 sold in India came with a 5.2-litre naturally-aspirated V10 engine. The version used in the drag race is the facelifted first-generation model. Coupled to a 6-speed manual gearbox, the 5.2-litre V10 engine of this Audi R8 V10 makes 540 PS of power and 540 Nm of torque. The powerful engine transfers the power to all four wheels via a Quattro all-wheel-drive system.
The Ferrari 488 Spider has a smaller but more powerful 3.9-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine, which produces a massive 670 PS of power and 760 Nm of torque. Mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, this engine gives the Ferrari 488 Spider a definite edge over the Audi R8 V10 on paper.

They decide to stage a second round as well
The two supercars went flat out twice, with the same driver in both the cars. In the first round, the Ferrari 488 Spider emerged as a clear winner over the Audi R8 V10. In the video, we can see that the R8 V10 had a slightly sluggish start. The 488 Spider maintained a lead over it till the end. In the second round, both the supercars had an equally good launch. Though in this round too, the Ferrari 488 Spider won with flying colours.
0Conclusion0
The Audi R8 V10 has a much bigger engine
At the beginning of the video, the video presenter spoke highly of the bigger 5.2-litre V10 engine on the Audi R8 V10. The Ferrari 488 Spider showed that the higher power and torque outputs it produces is reflected much on the road too. It also shows why carmakers have already shifted their focus on twin-turbocharging and downsizing of engines, which allows for better performance, better fuel economy (not that it really matters considering these are supercars) along with reduced emissions at the same time.
Does the twin-turbo Ferrari 488 Spider appeal to you more? Or is it the old-school Audi R8 V10 which pulls your heartstrings? Do leave your comments below to let us know.
