Parents everywhere are likely wrestling a toddler and going to break their necks to get a glimpse of the 2023 Honda Pilot. Well, we’ve got a first look of the fourth-generation SUV, so you can just leave your tab open and come back to this page when that toddler gives you half-a-minute. (Sorry in advance for the crazy camo that might make you question your vision after many sleepless nights.)
Photographers managed to capture some spy shots of the 2023 Honda Pilot testing in the Midwest U.S., and it has a bold new look up front. The face seems to be channeling the Honda Ridgeline’s mid-cycle refresh. It not only has a blockier front end, but it also sports a completely new fascia that incorporates a more aggressive grille, LED headlights, and fog lights. While its silhouette remains mostly unchanged, it does carry the 2024 Accord’s taillights and a new tailgate and rear fascia.

Sources say this fourth-gen Pilot will use Honda’s new global light truck platform that debuted under the 2022 Acura MDX. The power will likely remain the same — a 3.5L V6 — but it will also get the same 10-speed automatic the MDX uses; the current Pilot houses a nine-speed and produces that produces 280 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. All-wheel-drive is standard.
Finally, rounding out the list of Hondas that the Pilot shares things in common with: a plug-in hybrid should eventually be available, along with the plug-in Odyssey. The system will likely use a version of the two-motor hybrid powertrain that is currently being used in the Honda Accord Hybrid.
They say it takes a community to raise a child; it seems the 2023 Honda Pilot is no different, taking cues from many other vehicles in the Honda lineup to make its design work. Expect the three-row SUV to makes its grand entrance in late 2022 — don’t expect major changes to the limited cargo space with the third row up, keep dreaming.
