We know, we know—another spy-shot article on the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6. Do we seem a little obsessed? If so, chalk it up to our being so thoroughly impressed by its Ioniq 5 sibling, and so utterly tantalized by the Prophecy concept that previewed its styling.
That said, we have to admit our enthusiasm has been tempered yet again by these latest images – of the 2023 Ioniq 6 in what may be near-production trim – which seem to confirm our suspicions that the car won’t look much like the Prophecy at all, and rather more like an old Elantra.
The photos do reveal to us some good news, though: while, yes, the styling sported by the concept car has been toned down and the front and rear overhangs extended outward, messing with its proportions, it does look like elements akin to the Prophecy’s taillights may make it to production. Prior prototypes we’d seen didn’t wear the same rear-bumped lamp reflectors we see here, suggesting Hyundai may still be tweaking final touches.

The suicide doors of the Prophecy are (obviously) gone and we don’t expect to see that car’s curves on the Ioniq 6 in Canadian showrooms, but the flush door handles and perhaps the concept car’s rear wing might make it to production yet.
Under the skin, we’ve heard there’ll be single- and dual-motor versions, that latter one possibly in 300-horsepower-plus nick. But we don’t want to speculate too much, with the Ioniq 6 still being probably a year away from arriving at dealerships. We’ll tell you what, though: if we see any more spy photos of the thing, we’ll let you know. Because, yes, we are obsessed.
