The bookings for the newly launched Skoda Slavia sedan has crossed the 10,000 unit mark in India. In addition to that, the Czech automaker’s sales volume stood at 5,608 units in March 2022 – making it the highest ever monthly sales for the company since its operations in the country.
In comparison, Skoda managed to sell just 1,159 units in March 2021, which makes way for a YoY sales growth of 383.86 per cent.
Earlier, Skoda launched the Skoda Slavia sedan on 28th February 2022 with a starting price of Rs 10.69 lakh (ex-showroom, India) for the base ‘Active’ trim equipped with the 1.0-litre TSI engine and manual transmission.
Three days later, Skoda launched the Slavia sedan with the 1.5-litre TSI engine and was priced at Rs 16.19 lakh (ex-showroom, India) for the manual variant and Rs 17.79 lakh (ex-showroom, India) for the variant equipped with 7-speed DSG transmission.
It is also worth mentioning that the Czech automaker received 10,000 bookings for the Slavia sedan in just 1 month since its launch in the country.
Speaking about the Skoda Slavia, the design of the newly launched Czech sedan is unmistakably Skoda with strong links to other new Skoda cars such as the Skoda Octavia and Skoda Superb.
Though the Skoda Slavia carries a very strong European design language, it does come with enough chrome elements all around the car to keep Indian consumers attracted.
Apart from that, the Skoda Slavia has a strong resemblance to the Skoda Kushaq SUV in terms of its interior layout. However, the Skoda Slavia comes with a digital instrument console as an added feature and the interior looks very premium with its layered dashboard and free-standing touchscreen infotainment unit.
Since the Skoda Slavia is built on the same MQB-A0 IN platform as the Skoda Skushaq SUV, it is a much larger sedan than the Skoda Rapid it replaces.
In terms of dimensions, the Skoda Slavia sedan is 4,541mm long, 1,752mm wide and 1,487mm tall. Apart from that, the Czech sedan has the longest wheelbase in its class at 2,651mm. Thanks to its large dimension, the Skoda Slavia’s boot measures at 521-litres.
Skoda Slavia sedan comes with two engines. The 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine produces 113bhp of power and 175Nm of torque. Moreover, this engine comes mated either to a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The next engine option is a much more potent 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine with 150bhp of power and 250Nm of torque. However, the automatic transmission mated to this engine is a more sophisticated 7-speed DSG unit.
This engine also comes with ACT (Active Cylinder Technology), which shuts down two of its four cylinders to improve fuel efficiency and emissions.
In terms of features, the new Skoda Slavia mimics the feature list of the previously launched Skoda Kushaq SUV with the inclusion of features such as a large 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with connected car tech, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, automatic climate control system, ventilated front seats, leatherette upholstery, an electric sunroof, a wireless charger, rear AC vents and many more.
In terms of safety, the Skoda sedan comes with plenty of safety features such as 6 airbags, ABS, EBD, ESC, an electronic differential system (EDS), tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and many more.
Thoughts About The Skoda Slavia
The Skoda Slavia replaces the Skoda Rapid sedan in India and the success of Skoda Kushaq and Skoda Slavia is a testament to the Volkswagen Group’s ‘India 2.0’ strategy. Moreover, the Skoda Slavia will be a strong contender in its segment.
