We’ve already gotten a good glimpse of the all-new Honda CR-V, what with its launches around the world and especially up north in Thailand. But the latest, and perhaps most interesting variant of the CR-V has just been launched at Auto Shanghai 2017- and it just so happens to be a hybrid. Unlike the IMA (integrated motor assist) hybrids that we’re used to seeing, the CR-V gets a dual-motor system in the form of the Honda Sport Hybrid i-MMD (intelligent multi-mode drive).

The new hybrid model will go on sale in China during the second half of this year, to be manufactured and sold by Dongfeng Honda. It will join a 1.5-litre turbocharged variant of the CR-V as well, which shows the real breadth of the CR-V lineup in the Chinese market. For now details on the models are scarce and we’re not likely to see it come here, given how our incentive schemes are no longer as favourable to imported hybrids, but with cars like the Hyundai Ioniq making it big we may eventually see Honda bring their hybrids back.
