Bangalore-based EV startup River has launched the Indie electric scooter in India. The River India is offered at an introductory price of Rs 1.25 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Indie electric scooter is the first product from the Bangalore-based EV firm which is backed by Toyota Ventures among others. Pre-Bookings for the River Indie are open now and deliveries will start in August 2023 with the EV firm producing its scooters at a facility on the outskirts of Bangalore.
River Indie Specs, Battery Pack, Range & Charging
The River Indie is powered by a 4kWh battery pack which is one of the largest capacity units fitted to an electric scooter in India. River claims that the Indie’s battery pack will deliver a range of 150 kilometres in ideal riding conditions with a real-world range of 120km on a single charge.
Speaking of charging, the River Indie’s battery pack can charge from 0 to 80 per cent in 5 hours with a standard charger. The River India also supports fast charging.
The battery pack provides power to a single electric motor that pushes out 8.98bhp of peak power and 26Nm of peak torque. This propels the River Indie from 0-40km/h in just 3.9 seconds and onward to a top speed of 90km/h. The River Indie has three riding modes – Eco, Ride & Rush – and can traverse inclines as steep as 18 degrees.
To handle our rough roads, the River Indie sports a telescopic front fork at the front and twin hydraulic shocks at the rear. The River Indie rides on 14-inch alloys and features disc brakes all around to bring it to a quick stop. The front disc of the River Indie measures 240mm while the one at the rear is a 200mm unit and these discs are aided by a combined braking system for added safety.
River Indie Design & Features
The River Indie features a rather unique design which helps it stand out from the crowd while sticking to the scooter styling mantra. This can be best seen in the low-mounted dual LED headlights that give the River Indie its signature look. This is also seen at the rear where the rectangular LED taillight makes its mark.
Other quirks and features of the River Indie’s design include a charging port mounted to the side of the front apron, a high contrast display that can handle the harshness of the summer sun’s light, front footpegs to maximise storage space on the floorboard and pannier mounts on either side to help increase luggage capacity.
The River Indie also sports a 12-litre glove box which can store quite a bit of your everyday stuff. In case that isn’t enough underneath the seat (which River claims is the widest and longest in the segment) sits a 43-litre storage compartment which will be more than enough for your groceries.
The River Indie EV also sports two USB charging ports to keep the devices of both riders charged. River will also offer a range of accessories that will help maximise the potential of the Indie’s storage options.
The River Indie is offered in three colour options – Summer Red, Monsoon Blue and Spring Yellow.
Thoughts About The River Indie
The River Indie is a rather stylish and unique EV that looks to maximise what you can do with an electric scooter. At an introductory price of Rs 1.25 lakh, the River Indie looks like a rather brilliant offering and we can’t wait to ride and tell you how it performs in the real world before it starts hitting the roads in August.
