When the previous generation FK8 Honda Civic Type R was launched, it couldn’t stop breaking records. Among them were new records at the Nurburgring, Spa, Silverstone, and in its home ground at the Suzuka Circuit.
At the Suzuka Circuit at least, the next-generation Civic Type R has already extended its legacy by setting a new track record for a front-wheel drive car at the home of the Japanese F1 Grand Prix. The time set on the 5.7 km circuit was 2:23.120 seconds. The record set by the previous FK8 Civic Type R was 2:23:993 back in 2020.
Not much was revealed through the onboard camera inside the car, but one thing’s for sure, there’s no doubt that the new Civic Type R sounds a lot angrier with a raspy exhaust note.
So far, the word is that the new Civic Type R will get an upgraded version of the 2.0-litre turbocharged engine used in the previous generation FK8 Civic Type R. It’s safe to assume that the new Type R will make more than the 306 hp and 400 Nm in the previous generation model.
As for the date of release, the new Civic Type R is expected to debut in the second half of this year.
