Safety issues hit Kia Carnival, Cerato and Soul as more than 31,000 Suzuki Vitara SUVs are called back
Kia has announced a nationwide recall for a total of 40,817 vehicles this week, including its top-selling Cerato small car, Carnival people-mover and discontinued Soul small SUV, all of which could encounter airbag faults.
Vehicles affected include those built between 2016 and 2018, including every variant across all three models.
According to the safety notice, airbags in affected models may not deploy in the event of an accident, due to a manufacturing issue with electrical components.
Kia says the Airbag Control Unit (ACU) cover and the Electronically Erasable Programming Read-Only Memory (EEPROM) chip may have been produced with insufficient clearance, which could cause the airbag warning lights to illuminate or the airbags to not deploy when required.
Owners of affected models are being asked to return their vehicle to a Kia dealership for a free inspection and repair if needed, which will include a software update or ACU replacement.

Meantime, Porsche is calling back 2020-built examples of its Cayenne (9YA) and Cayenne Coupe (9YB) for the second time in less than 12 months.
According to its latest safety recall, which affects a total of 70 vehicles, Porsche says the previous replacement of the rear axle trailing arm clamping nuts (as per the above recall) may have caused a misalignment of the rear axle assembly.
The German car-maker says this could result in excessive wear to the rear tyres and may result in a sudden flat tyre and subsequent loss of vehicle control.

Suzuki Vitara
In other recent recall news, a total of 31,766 examples of the fourth-generation Suzuki Vitara are also in trouble, with the Japanese car-maker reporting incorrect information is printed in the owner’s manual of certain Vitara vehicles.
Models affected include those built from 2015-2022, with Suzuki Australia saying consumers may incorrectly install the ISOFIX child restraint system due to the incorrect information contained in the manual.
The car-maker says if this occurs it poses a risk of injury or death to the child in the event of an accident.
Of the 30,000-plus SUVs affected, 26,887 are being called back by Suzuki Australia, while the remaining 4879 examples are part of a smaller recall from Suzuki Auto Co, which independently imports and sells the same models in Queensland and Northern NSW.
