Price Comparison: Mahindra XUV700 vs Tata Harrier vs Hyundai Creta vs MG Hector

The SUV segment in India grows by the day and now with Mahindra and Mahindra’s latest offering in, the much-awaited SUV of the year in the form of Mahindra XUV700, the competition looks set to get very fierce. Now that Mahindra has also released the prices of all variants of the XUV700, it would only be fair for us to stack it up against the competition and see how well the new SUV compares against the likes of the Tata Harrier, Hyundai Creta and MG Hector.

A base model Mahindra XUV700 with a 2-litre petrol engine with a manual gearbox starts from Rs 11.99 lakh, and with a diesel engine, prices start from Rs 12.49 lakh. The 2 base model MX trims are only available in 5 seater configurations.

In comparison to that, a Tata Harrier with a 2-litre diesel engine and manual gearbox starts from Rs 14.39 lakh and the MG Hector with 1.5-litre turbo petrol and manual gearbox starts from Rs 13.49 lakh. The Creta comes in as the cheapest 5-seater offering of the cars with a starting price of just Rs 10.16 lakh. The Creta also uses a manual transmission and a 1.5-litre petrol engine.

The AX series for the XUV700 starts from Rs 13.99 lakh (5-seater configuration) and Rs 15.19 lakh (7-seater configuration). These trims get twin 10.25-inch screens with wireless Android Auto/Apple Carplay, the AdrenoX suite of over 60 connected-car features, Alexa integration for voice commands, six speakers, LED DRLs and plenty more.

A Tata Harrier with an automatic gearbox starts from Rs 17.06 lakh. The Harrier is the only car here with no petrol variant on offer. The MG Hector CVT starts from Rs 15.71 lakh. The Hyundai Creta with a CVT transmission starts from Rs 15.61 lakh.

The 2.0-litre mStallion turbo-petrol in the Mahindra XUV700, producing 200PS and 380 Nm of torque is the most powerful SUV here. The Tata Harrier uses the FCA-sourced 2.0-litre diesel engine that churns out 170PS and 350 Nm of torque.

The petrol engine on the Hyundai Creta is a 1.5-litre producing 114 PS and 144 Nm and can be had with a CVT or a six-speed manual. The more exciting petrol motor is a 1.4-litre Turbo GDi unit producing 140PS and 242 Nm and is only being offered with a seven-speed DCT. The sole diesel on offer is a 1.5-litre four-cylinder unit producing 115PS and 250 Nm of torque and can be had with a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic.

The Hector is offered with either a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine which makes 143PS and 250 Nm of torque or a 2-litre multijet diesel engine which pushes out 170PS and 350 Nm of torque. MG doesn’t offer any diesel automatic option. To compensate for that, MG Hector 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol motor is offered with 6-speed MT, 6-speed MT with hybrid, 6-speed DCT and 8-speed CVT gearbox options.

The AX7 trim which sits at the top of the XUV700 starts from Rs 17.59 lakh and is only offered in a 7-seater configuration. This price tag is very similar to the range-topping Hyundai Creta which starts at Rs 17.78 lakh. The Harrier XZ range starts from Rs 18.34 lakh. An MG Hector Sharp which sits at the top of the Hector range starts at Rs 18.69 lakh, making it the costliest range-topping model on this list.
