Between 2022 and 2024, the Swedish firm will introduce three new electric models: the Polestar 3, Polestar 4, and Polestar 5. Internally, the Gothenburg business is working on a new electric powertrain codenamed P10. A highly complex and high-performance set designed to confront Porsche head-on.
Manufacturers frequently target a certain brand. Polestar, a Swedish company committed to high-performance electricians, has set a lofty objective for itself, and it is one that they are working hard to achieve. Scandinavians hope to be an alternative to Porsche, which is developing a new generation of zero-emission cars with combustion engines and plans to increase the existing restricted offering with the Taycan as the sole representative.
It will only be for a short period, and in the case of Volvo, it will be because the first entirely new electric vehicle will arrive in mid-2022.
It is the Polestar 3, which will be followed by the Polestar 4 in 2023 and the Polestar 5 in 2024. Gregor Hembrough, director of Polestar Americas, unveiled the new plan in a statement, stating that Polestar aspires to be a contender to Porsche in terms of design, performance, and innovation.
The Polestar 3 is a new generation electric SUV that will be available in mid-2022.
Polestar is powered by a 645 horsepower electric motor.
Polestar is working on a new electric power pack that will allow it to put the Germans on the ropes in order to achieve this aim. For the time being, it is in its infancy, since it will make its public debut in the middle of the decade, aboard the future Polestar 5, a high-flying saloon that has already been verified and will be the reality of the Precept idea.
Internally, the new powertrain is known as the “P10,” and it is said to be a small group. The electric motor will have a maximum output of 475 kW, or 645 horsepower, which is one-and-a-half times that of the Porsche Taycan engines.
A two-speed automatic gearbox will be added to the same unit to absorb such a large quantity of power, with the added benefit of being able to detach automatically, depending on driving circumstances, to preserve battery charge and boost efficiency.
Hembrough has pointed out that this is a positive trend. Polestar will have it all to themselves, so neither Volvo nor Lotus will be able to get their hands on it. Polestar has refused access to the Chinese company Geely’s two Premium brands, as well as batteries.
The two components will be assembled in a new aluminum space frame type platform to which the aforementioned brands will not have access, though they will be able to benefit from the only development made in three bands: the electrical architecture, which will be equipped with a 400 V and 800 V charging system.
The battery with a capacity of 103 kWh may be charged to 80% in just under 20 minutes using only the first method. Polestar isn’t skimping on the details, as it plans to include bidirectional charging and “V2X” with a 20 kW power output. Whatever it takes to knock Porsche off his perch.
